Sarah Bettens (of K's Choice) & Christine Baze also to perform
Musicians unite to spread awareness and prevention of cervical cancer
September 13 (NY, NY) - Renowned recording artists Duncan Sheik and David Poe are joining forces as part of a tour, which aims not only to bring great music to cities across North America, but also to help promote an important health cause. Along with Ben Folds, Sarah Bettens (of K's Choice) and Christine Baze, Sheik and Poe will be visiting 20 cities from October 15 - November 24, 2005, on the third annual "Yellow Umbrella Tour", which aims to educate women on cervical cancer awareness and prevention.
"Participating on the Yellow Umbrella Tour has given me the chance to not only join perform with other musicians I admire," commented Duncan Sheik, "it has allowed me to use my music to help women across the country potentially avoid a serious health problem".
Sheik's latest effort is perhaps his finest, most realized work: accompanied by guitarist Gerry Leonard, drummer Doug Yowell and bassist Jeff Allen, the confluence of personal and political songs on "White Limousine" make it an ambitious offering. An E.P. of songs from Sheik's new record will be available at the shows and the full-length album will be released nationally in the New Year.
Many took notice when his Grammy-nominated gold debut record hit the charts in 1996; he followed it with "Humming," (Atlantic) the all-acoustic "Phantom Moon" (Nonesuch) and the modernist "Daylight" (Atlantic.) Sheik has also composed extensively for film and the stage. . His first full-length musical. "Spring Awakening" will open at the Atlantic Theater in summer 2006.
David Poe's newest and warmest release, "Love is Red," (The Lab/Universal) has been justly named "Make-out Record of the Year" by Harp Magazine and The San Francisco Chronicle. This collection of songs was recorded in a fortnight in a subterranean bunker in Berlin, now a studio, during the coldest winter in German history. Poe enlisted the support of his original combo, drummer Sim Cain & stand-up bassist John Abbey. "Love Is Red" captures the vibe of the dynamic live show that has delighted folks all over the planet.
Poe released two previous albums, his self-titled debut (produced by T-Bone Burnett) and "The Late Album" on Sony/Epic. Duncan produced "So Beautiful" the first single off Poe's record. It's an exuberant, summery pop single gracing the airwaves of tastemaker stations WXPN and KCRW. "[Poe] writes forensically exact lyrics with a dark, romantic sensibility, set to richly melodic, sensuously jazzy backing, singing in a flexible, warm, husky tone," writes London's Daily Telegraph. "Love is Red" is now available for download exclusively at www.davidpoe.com for a limited time at only $8.99 a pop.
Besides being part of the Yellow Umbrella Tour, Duncan Sheik and David Poe have another project in the works: a rock group, featuring drummer Matt Johnson (Jeff Buckley's "Grace," Rufus Wainwright) Morgan Taylor and Fil Krohnengold. The band will make its debut sometime in 2006.

AMERICAN TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED
July 25, 2005 (New York City) - Musicians Duncan Sheik and David Poe became acquainted at a songwriter's retreat in a castle in the south of France a few years back, when Sheik was enjoying the success of his first, Grammy-nominated gold record, and Poe's self-titled debut, produced by T-Bone Burnett, was earning critical accolades around the globe. Their mutual admiration society was formed out of a shared respect for crafty pop songs about girls and a love for the white grape.
Now Sheik has released four records, Poe, three; both have produced successful projects for other artists, have performed everywhere and are on tour in America - this time, together.
Duncan Sheik's latest effort is perhaps his finest, most realized work: accompanied by guitarist Gerry Leonard, drummer Doug Yowell and bassist Jeff Allen, the confluence of personal and political songs on "White Limousine" make it an ambitious offering.
