The principal creative force behind The Silver State is Las Vegas native and full-time Brooklynite Caleb Lindskoog. After releasing one EP in Las Vegas, The Silver State moved east in the winter of 2006. The band featured Alex Stopa on percussion and Taylor Milne on guitar. After arriving in New York, the band promptly added keyboardist/bassist Brendan Fitzpatrick (Clem Snide) and began tracking their debut full-length album, "Cut and Run."

The lyrical tendency for storytelling places Caleb's writing in a camp with the likes of Neil Young and Townes Van Zandt, while the band's musical choices are more akin to the arrangements of Pavement, Yo La Tengo, and Acetone. This convergence leads "Cut and Run" into compelling new territory where both nostalgia and a surprising new vision create a consistent sonic aesthetic and a clear narrative thread.

The core of the record's conceptual vision is rooted in the darker side of transition. It bears the weight of loss with tracks like "Cross Country" and "Lions' Den" and explores the frightful tendencies of one who has suffered it with the opening dirge, "Did What I Did," all the while maintaining a somber beauty and restrained urgency. There is an undercurrent of troubled calm, spotlighted in "Faith, You Changed Your Name" and "Letdown," that connects the songs in a spiraling story of love, betrayal, loneliness and revenge.

During the past half decade, Caleb has been a part of recording projects with Secretly Canadian artist June Panic, Vess Ruhtenberg (The Lemonheads), Heidi Gluck (Some Girls), former Las Vegas bandmate Ronnie Vannucci (The Killers), Andy Fry (Margot and the Nuclear So and So's), and others. Since its formation, The Silver State has performed withApples In Stereo, Ben Kweller, The Album Leaf and The Silversun Pickups.

"Cut and Run" will be released by Young American Recordings on April 1, 2008.
